Pre-School Backpack {sewing}

Tomorrow, my oldest son starts Pre-K. Where does the time go?! I really hope I'm ready for this...I know he is! {and PS: I'm not sure I will ever get used to school starting in August!...before Labor Day!}

Tonight, we visited his new classroom at his new school to drop off his school supplies. We've driven past it many, many times....but  until a few days ago, it's been far from finished...so it's hard to believe how wonderful the school looks on the inside. The teachers have done an amazing job pulling everything together and decorating the brand new building.

In honor of the back to school season, I am going to share a project I finished this summer.

Earlier this summer, we went on a vacation to my in-law's lake house....it involved a 20+ hour car trip {each way!} I'm not sure how normal people would prepare for this type of car trip...but I decided it was the time to sew my baby a little backpack to carry all of his scoopers and tractors. Logical, right? As my husband will attest: once I get a {crazy} idea in my head, I cannot let it go.

I used the back pack pattern from the Oliver + S book, Little Things to Sew. Holy-moly, adorable.

The interior fabric is mustache fabric...and I cannot get enough of it. I added his initials on the exterior using iron on vinyl cut with my Silhouette machine.

I am in love with this back pack, or as it is usually called "pack-pack." I love seeing that little bag hanging off that little boy, but I had initially thought I would make one for my first born for school this year...once I saw this finished version, I decided against it...I think it's small, too small to fit a folder and easily zip. Oh well, it is still really cute! Don't you agree?
