Do YOU want to take better pictures?

Since purchasing my Digital SLR camera, I've been on a quest to improve my photography skills and to simply take better pictures. I came across this fantastic e-book by Kristen Duke (who is a truly talented photographer!) that gives the in's and out's of taking your camera off "auto" and using the camera to it's fullest potential. Aside from providing detailed instructions of the different modes and how they work, she also gives a mini-cheat cheats to help master ISO, Aperture, & Shutter Speed. One awesome feature is that it it printable as a 4 by 6 photograph. I'm planning on printing out a copy of each page so I have this "book" on hand whenever I need it.

If you are looking to improve your photography and take your camera off "auto" I would highly recommend Kristen's book. Take the plunge, give it a try. I dare you!

If this move doesn't kill me, I hope to be able to share some pictures of my new digs soon!

Photography Fun: Practice Makes Perfect

I've been trying to improve my photography skills. I've really been enjoying the class I've been taking and I think I've learned a lot, but ultimately it seems like practice makes perfect...

I've taken my camera off "Auto" and have branched out quite a bit. I think my efforts are paying off. What do you think?

Photography Fun

I'm a photography wanna be. I'll admit it. I read a gazillion blogs and they all have amazing pictures, and ultimately, I'm jealous inspired.

Last year I purchased myself a beautiful Nikon D5000 and up until now it's been the most amazing point & shoot camera. It takes GREAT pictures. But, I know that I'm holding this baby back. So Momma has to learn to take pictures like a grown up. No more "auto" for me. {And I'm also somewhat ashamed I have asked for a "push present": a new lens to take pictures of the new baby!}

I started taking a 5 week long photography class through a community art program at my local university. {Thankfully, I live within minutes of West Virginia University!} I'm so glad that I am doing this!!! If there is something  you want to do, like learn to sew, use photoshop, play the guitar, whatever: do this for yourself! What an amazing gift to give yourself/myself an hour and a half to not be mommy or housekeeper, or wife!

My eyes don't completely glaze over when the terms "aperture, shutter-speed, ISO, or the rule of thirds" get thrown out there. I've been trying to practice and take lots of pictures to share with my class...I figure since I'm in a "sharing" holding pattern until a baby is born, I'll share some photography:

My favorite models happen to mostly be of the 4 legged variety-Mason & Trekkie, featuring the adoring little brother, Callum.

Although I'm annoyed that she is destroying my sofa cushions, she is cute.

Sweetness.

I like that you can see my reflection taking his picture in his eyeball. Too artsy?

Sister needs a manicure. I know. If only it wasn't such a weekly battle. Yes, I cut them WEEKLY!

My snuggle-bug Mason. If only he'd be happy snuggling with Trekkie through the night!

Boy with his pups. Love.

Nothing like a little "pillow" to watch tv on!
 Onto other things:

If you are not familiar with Ree Drummond, better known as the Pioneer Woman, you need to be. As in right now. Make the steak salad & without a doubt MAKE THE ONION RINGS. They are heavenly!

I don't want to make anyone jealous, but I was able to purchase a HUGE bottle of Pumpkin Spice Syrup from Starbucks. It's going to expire soon, but our local Starbucks had way too much, so I scored a HUGE jug for $5. Ironically, the Pumpkin Spice Latte I ordered was like $4.05. My husband is going away camping next weekend, I decided I HAD to learn out to use the cappuccino maker. This is my first attempt {not bad...}

And finally, we woke up Sunday morning to this very strange foggy mist. This is the view from my front porch, taken within a few minutes of each other:

I need to bring 2-3 pictures to share with my class on Thursday. What is your favorite?
