Valentine's Day Decor: Burlap Heart Wreath

I've been inspired by all of the amazing Valentine's Day decor appearing on my favorite blogs. I had to jump on the bandwagon. Since I'm sick & tired of snow, I've put away all the snowmen, and now all the hearts and red and pink are making an appearance.

I'd seen a few examples of Burlap Heart Wreaths on U-Create, and used the tutorial from Craftaholics Anon ymous to make my own. My looks a little pathetic & sad. I used the only wire hanger in my house, maybe mine is just too small, it took nearly a yard of burlap, I hate to say this project is a craft fail, but this is certainly not my favorite project. What do you think?

Burlap & Silhouettes...two of life's greatest things

There is just something about burlap and silhouettes that go so perfectly together. And really, burlap stinks. Literally. It smells horrible, like chemicals or something BAD (am I the only one that notices that?) but the texture. It's just unbeatable!

And silhouettes, I just love them. So simple & basic. Beautiful. I've seen a variety of ideas of silhouettes that I have just loved. So I figured why not combine some burlap with a silhouette....I think it looks pretty darn cute. Now I just need to get a frame for these and decided where to hang them.

How to make a silhouette for yourself:

I created these by taking a photo (probably the hardest part!) and then using any old photo editing program, I used Picasa, adjust the contrast so you can easily see the outline you want. Then, print your image to the preferred size. I printed mine in black & white, 5 by 7" but you can figure out what size you'd like to use.
Use a black marker and trace the outline so you can see it easily.
Use a light box or bright window to trace outline again onto freezer paper (the dull size).
Cut out the inside portion (the face) throw away the innards unless there are details that you'd like to include.
Iron the freezer paper onto your fabric. I used tan burlap that I had precut to be a little larger than 5x7.
Use spray paint (in the color of your choice) I would imagine paint would/could work too.
Let spray paint dry a few minutes....and remove freezer paper. Ta-Da! A perfect & adorable silhouette.

Beach Burlap Pillow

I'm so excited to share this creation with you. I'm not kidding when I tell you that it is SUCH a quick project. I've had time to do all of this, plus do two loads of laundry AND finish the last episode of the Real Housewives of DC...

I just put new bedding on my bed. I've just been feeling I need something new to change things up. I get this way at least once year...but being that we haven't even been in this house 3 months I figured this nagging feeling just wouldn't go away...I'll have to tell you about the new bedding another day because I'm in love with my new burlap pillow!

Being that I just returned from a wonderful beach vacation and that I now live in a landlocked state, it make sense that I wanted to have a serene beach/lake feeling in my room, right?! Using the other half of the Walmart pillow I mentioned in my previous post I created this adorable pillow.

I found an image of a seagull, printed it out onto freezer paper, trimmed the bird away, then ironed the freezer paper to my burlap. I then spray painted the image of the seagull onto the burlap using a tan color only slightly darker than the burlap itself. If I had black I might have tried it, but alas, no black spray paint.

The construct the pillow, I simply sewed a seam along the bottom edge of the burlap with my sewing machine. I think jammed the pillow inside, and using a very large needle and some of the burlap I'd pulled off to create a little ragged edge I simply sewed up both sides of the pillow.
