How do you encourage a creative, artistic spirit in your baby, toddler or young child?

I've been cloth diapering my son for almost 2 years now, since we brought him home from the hospital(yikes!) It's not something I've talked about on my blog before, but it is something I strongly believe in. Do I cheat once in a while and use a disposible? Sure. But am I responsible for hundreds and even thousands of diapers sitting in landfills for an eternity? Even if I don't contribute thousands of diapers a year, my answer is still YES, and that's why I choose to use cloth diapers as much as possible. In addition to using them myself, I've turned a few friends into believers as well. And yes, the husband's always go along with it too...

My diaper of choice for some time now has been Bum Genius 3.0's. I've tried a few of their other products as well (and they're not too shabby either!) but for day to day use, I tend to always grab my 3.0's first. Believe me, if I had an endless supply of cash, I'd have an entire stash of 4.0's (for those of you who don't know, they've released a newer version of the 3.0--the 4.0--and I only have one, but it is a FANTASTIC diaper!) Although my diaper collection consists of almost all white, with a splash of blue/yellow/green, I was thrilled to see that BumGenius has branched into a new "artists series" and let me just say: ADORABLE!

And, as all cloth diaperers know, you'd always like just ONE MORE DIAPER...and Cotton Babies (the makers of BumGenius) are giving away a set of their new artist series diapers. And so in order to put my name in for some free dipes, they've asked users to answer the following question: How do you encourage a creative, artistic spirit in your baby, toddler or young child?

And being that my blog is mostly all about MY creativity, my response to that question is: I lead by example. I allow my son to join in. I shamelessly show off (alright, brag) about things I've made. I constantly hand him crayons. I tell him how wonderful everything he creates is, and most importantly I display it whenever possible. And although he's barely two, he draws all of this own note cards (mostly Thank You's) for the entire family!

So, for those of you who come across this who have children or will have children in the future, I encourage you to try cloth diapers. It's worth it!
